    Clutch release bearing

On my throw out bearing, there is a pointed end on the outer race. This is easily seen in the paragon photo of their p/n 9825 if you enlarge it. I have never noticed this pointed area in the race before on my 67, nor ever remember it form previous clutch jobs. The AIM, shop manual, and service manual all make no mention of it for a correct installation. So is there a correct orientation of this pointed nub in the outer hub? Must be there for a reason.....

attached is a link for the TO bearing from Paragon,s site

    Don------

The design of clutch release bearings has changed over the years. In the case of GM bearings, there have been several supersessions of the original bearing used for your car. The bearing pictured is the same configuration that you would get if you bought the current GM bearing and most, if not all, of the other aftermarket bearings. The feature you mentioned is part of several features for what are now called "self-centering" bearings.

      That's fine, it's a GM replacement.
But which way does the pointed nub point; towards the crankshaft centerline or away from the crankshaft centerline?

Also, should I use a moly grease or a graphite grease? Both were called out in the service/repair/AIM manuals.

I've forgotten. However, as I vaguely recall, instructions come with the bearing. Maybe somebody else knows.

I've always used a moly grease. I think either would work fine, though.
