    Correct Engine Blue paint (77-81)

Does anyone know of an aerosol engine blue paint that actually matches the factory color? None are available locally - though you can get 3 shades of Ford Blue - so I ordered in a can each of DupliColor 1608 and VHT SP135. Both are too dark when compared to the original paint currently on the engine. I'm trying to repaint the thermostat outlet, and if it's the wrong color it is somewhat obvious.

So, if you've used a brand other than DupliColor or VHT and had it color match, please let me know.

    Pat:

I would try Bill Hirsch (engine) paint. Seymour is another great brand.

However, I do not have first hand experience with the blue color. Sorry.

I have the Seymour in my cart on Amazon, as well as PlastiKote. However, I'm looking for some experience before I buy.
The Hirsch is $18 plus shipping. Won't take long and we will have over $100 in blue test paints if we're not careful. That's why I'm looking for firsthand comments.

        Patrick-FWIW:
When we redid my 1977 Chevy Sport Truck with an LS9 the closest I found was Chrysler Blue Engine Paint.
Did a lot of powder painting also on some parts. My Powder Painter used #5012 Blue. Not sure of the brand he
used but can't be that many of them. Picture of my engine is below. Never did get a true reproduction of
the paint because the original tint had some green in with the blue. The above was the as close as I can find.

GM used to have available a "corporate blue" engine paint. This was supposed to be the color you seek but I don't know how close it actually was (GM's Chevrolet Orange wasn't too close, though). The last part number I have for it is GM #12346300. That's discontinued but there may be a new number. If so, I can't find it.

            Larry,

Which brand? Or did you only use the powder coat?

              Joe,

Looks like all part numbers discontinued:

Joe: We tried that GM paint back then and it wasn't even close. Chrysler Engine Blue was the closest. Larry

I"ve used Eastwood's Corporate Blue engine paint in a quart and took the oil cap to compare to low-mileage vehicles with same color. I couldn't tell the difference.
