    '63 transmission shifter

Does any fiberglass need to be cut from the stock hole of a '63 to install a Hurst shifter? Q #2, request confirmation that a Corvette build date of March '63 should have the thinner shift lever as compared to the larger '64 style lever. I recently purchased a second '63 that has the '64 lever and is very hard to get into reverse. Once in reverse, the transmission works fine, as it does in all forward gears. Neither of my cars are show cars but am trying to make one as correct as possible for me. I have a good spare Hurst if I can't get the currently installed one to function normally. I bought the March (Muncie) car knowing the shift issue but as the previous owner had someone adjust the transmission and "got the shifter as good as he could get it", I realize the problem could still be in the adjustment. Thanks in advance for any help.......

Question number 2. All 63's had the the thin shifter. Your March car should have a Borg Warner T10 transmission. The car's derivative VIN number should be stamped on the transmission.

The Hurst shifter in my May 29th, 63 car with the original Muncie fits fine; installed by previous owner but I don't see any fiberglass cut to install it...
