Need suggestions, 65 Coupe gas tank.

Got he new engine in the 65, it ran poorly and I found some water in the gas, damn ethanol.
    Removed and cleaned the carb.
Drained the gas tank, from the bottom, put in 2 gallons of gas in it and none came out the bottom gas line. Siphoned it out, dried the inside of the tank and all looks ok.
Any suggestions on further cleaning the tank out prior to adding clean gas?

      Bruce,

When you "drained" it from the bottom, did you remove the hose and just let it siphon out by itself? If so, then you "broke" the siphon effect when it got emptied.

If so, then when you put a few gallons of gas back in, it will not just drain out of the hose because you broke the siphon. After re-connecting the engine fuel pump, it would then draw the fuel out of the tank, pulling the fuel up and over the sender hard line. Only if the tank was almost full would it start to siphon by itself because the fuel level would be higher than the highest point in the sender line. It would continue to siphon until empty.

If you removed the sender assembly to drain it, then reinstalled it, same effect after putting a few gallons in.

If not the case then yes the sender line may be plugged up or sender pipe screen is blocked.

        Rich & Gene,
All is well. I drained the tank, pumped some fuel out through the fuel pump until it was clear. Previously it was cloudy and had water in it. Probably from water that was absorbed by the wonderful methanol in our fuel.
I added methanol (aka dry gas) to the gas I put in the tank, drained it out. Pumped more gas through the fuel pump until it was perfectly clear. Hooked everything back up and took a 40 mile Easter ride.
Thanks for your input and have a Happy Easter.
