Mel, think I asked this question many years back along with how do you replace the wiring harness and connect it to the motor. No responses at that time. I ended up just removing the tracking, cleaning everything up, regreaseing all tracking, etc. and splicing the harness in the hinge bolt access area of the door. Hopefully someone will give you a good explanation. What I did allowed my windows to operate properly. Good luck!!

      Hi Mel,
The most difficult task for me was how to disconnect the electrical leads that are connected to the motor inside the door. According to the factory book, the leads just unsnap and without understanding the plug configuration, I was unable to disconnect the wires so I just cut the leads from under the dash. I will have to replace that segment of the harness upon my reinstall. The total motor assembly will unscrew from the interior face of the door panel. The window glass must be removed before the assembly can come out of the door cavity.

I have both motors out, so I can take some photos of the plugs and post them tomorrow. We will need to understand how to make the disconnect and reconnect.

DO NOT disconnect the power widow motor from the arm until after you run a 1/20 bolt through the assembly that attached to the door frame on the car, then through the big hole on the gear. You need to make some jumpers wires. On the plug the two terminals on the motor controls the up and down. There is a separate ground wire that you will need to connect. Connect the ground, then connect one terminal on the plug to determine which direction that you need to be in so that you can place the 1/4 bolt through the hole. Let the gear come in contact with the bolt. If you take the motor off of the assembly without doing this you are going to get hurt!

Here are the photos of a reproduction power window plug. You need you push the safety catch down and pull when it is attached to the power window motor. The clear connector is the ground. You may need to place a minor in the door to find the location of it. The original plugs are green.

                Mel,

The Assembly Manual (AIM) should give you an idea of the power window motor installation also. UPC A31

it is described step by step in the Chassis Service Manual. The regulator and motor come out as an assy then you can secure the regulator and pull the motor. As Gary says, it is spring loaded, you need to have the regulator secured when you pul the motor. I had a friend pull a motor without clamping the regulator once. That resulted in a trip to the emergency room.

                    Re: power window

I've done this at least a dozen times, and the last time I needed to change out the power window motors on my '67, I used this shortcut: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...ement-846.html.

It worked very well - the hardest part was drilling holes thought the door panel which is a sandwich of metal and fiberglass. It allows easy motor R & R without removing the window glass or the regulator. Just move the glass to the closed position and secure it with packaging tape. When you remove the three bolts holding the motor to the regulator, you'll be able to move it around so that you can disconnect the power and ground wires.

I saw this but noticed that the template has four (4) locations for drilling and in the verbal description it says drill three (3) holes. Since you have done this, can you let me know which and how many holes you drilled.

                        Hi Mel -

You would drill only three holes on each side - the three forward holes.

If you'll send me your email address, I'll send you pictures!
