I will get all the casting dates off of my compressor within the next day or so. My car has been in my family since 1975. My dad was the second owner and drove this car on a few NCRS Road Tours back in the early to mid 1980's. Not sure if maybe it was sent out for a rebuild and exchanged for another one. Will get the casting dates soon.

I'm banking that this compressor is your original. If it was replaced, the car would most likely end up with a much newer compressor. I'm wondering when the one piece label with the caution ending in "High" began showing up? The 2 piece '65 labels may have ran for quite a while during production. More research needed.

Okay, just came in from the shop after getting the casting date off of my a/c compressor. It is the same as yours Ray. Took the picture with an inspection mirror.

This has been a Question for a while. JUST, JUST if there were (2) vendors assembling compressors using different decals and foils?? Example, cast date codes? Some under both intake and outlet, and some under outlet only? Where there 2 different vendors assembling? There were 3 shifts. doing ALL of the compressors! Cad, Pontiac, Olds, Buick, Chevy, Rolls, Jag, Msb and others.
Not all the compressors are Corvette! Just what I am seeing!

Now this gets me thinking again that maybe different companies supplyied foil and decals? I've seen the wrong R-12 lbs on some compressors that were bought. Also compressors with the right foil but wrong pistons, flat top instead of dished pistons which the vette used.
I don't think the dealership put foils and decals on replacement compressors? Just for information, the front plate also has a raised date code usually within a few weeks of the back plate.

I didn't think all corvette compressors used the low compression piston. I thought there was a change about 1966?

Yes from late 66 and newer had the low compression piston from what I remember.

I am sure I read it in my 65 manual. I think it was, and think only, for the 327/365 HP. I don't have the 64 manual to see what they said, and my 63 has nothing that I noticed.
There was a argument that there was more volume forced into the cylinder because of the dish? The piston is 1.5" diameter and the dish is 1" diameter and .100 deep. Doesn't seem to matter much. Some say "more to compress". Someone must have blown a compressor to justify a dish, but I never saw one that blew other than one that had the front hub pounded on with a hammer that moved the placement of the pistons. That made 3 pistons hit the main reed valve plate.

Interesting anomaly, especially since your vette was built less than 600 cars before mine . . . both of our compressors have the same casting date code (E205), with the only difference being the B22 on yours and the B18 on mine.
Personally, I find it hard to believe that there would be two or three compressor suppliers being used, with such low volume with AC for '65 (~2400 units). Maybe they had two or three different label suppliers, but, that would mean that the St Louis team would have to put the labels on . . . once again, another interesting anomaly.

Something to consider, the compressor supplier was making compressors for every GM product that had A/C. As I recall almost every Cadillac and top of the line Oldsmobile had A/C.

Remember that GM/Frigidaire had to supply both the A6 and A12 compressors based the cabin size of the GM vehicle they were installed in. Corvettes obviously used the smaller A6 size and Caddy's and Old's the larger A12. That would be a lot of compressors to have on hand to supply all of the assembly plant locations.

Still scratching my head as to why my compressor does not have a serial number.

Airplanes also had the A6 compressors. They were on about everything. I mentioned the 3rd shift, but only seen that once on a foil.

Domenic, The 2nd photo in post #14 is a photo I posted some time ago, I removed it from an early 65 car, was a 250 hp. It has the dished pistons. I still have it.
