    Brake Caliper Question

Do non Delco Moraine brake calipers that have been converted to O ring seal work just as well as Delco Moraine calipers? The reason I ask is because I am wanting to convert and I saw a vendor on E-bay selling a set for $325 and no core charge and rebuilt by Lonestar. I queried him mainly to confirm the Lonestar rebuild and his answer was that they are non Delco Moraine and that they are definitely rebuilt by Lonestar. My other option is to buy rebuild kits and do the conversion myself.

I've never heard of any functional problem associated with non-Delco Corvette calipers. Most likely, these are of Chinese manufacture, even though rebuilt/assembled by Lonestar. However, you also need to confirm that these are stainless steel sleeved.

Thank you, Joe. I forgot to ask that question and I will. I am also looking at rebuild kits since I know my present calipers are sleeved. I assume the bore can have no scratches to be effective. If I find any scratches will fine emery cloth work to address the problem?

I doubt that you'll find any scratches or similar imperfections in the bores assuming they were sleeved with 304 or 316 stainless sleeves. Any imperfection that you can catch your fingernail in renders the caliper scrap (since most rebuilders won't re-sleeve a previously sleeved caliper). Otherwise, if you can clean it up with crocus cloth (and, NOTHING more abrasive), you'll probably be OK. I'd probably go with option of attempting to rebuild your current calipers before replacement. More than likely, you'll be able to do it with no problems.
