68 frame diagonal brace "date"

I was wondering when the rear diagonal brace was added in the 68 model year.
Month or Approximate vin.My car is a Feb 3rd or 4th week car.......can't remember.
greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave, my 68 has a March 4 build date and did come with them; I added them since I am doing a frame off rebuild. I thought those were added for the 69 model year, but I am not sure about that.

I have an April 10 th car and it does not have the braces.

My 1968 original owner convertible does not have them, built in FEB 1968.

now when it happened but according to an original AIM it should have happened around this change time.

Looks like the AIM says 2/23/68. I have a March 8th car, with the correct stamped VIN on the frame and it has the angled brace to the kick up.

Man, with Chris not having them on the 4th and my car having them on the 8yh that narrows it down pretty good, if both are correct.

I have a April 18th built car without them. Not sure if they used both styles for a while or there was a hard date when the frames changed. From what I have seen from previous post on this issue in the forum, May is the month where all cars start having the braces.

John Hinckley CF post (2005) relates frames manufactured and shipped to St. Louis. Expect subsequent line usage was not on a first-in-first-out basis. Interesting how quickly posters to this thread narrowed down time frame!

Maybe a business decision to use up all the old stock. It would be nice to see how they made the call and why some cars got the new ones. If there was some criteria for which ones got it, that would lead to heartburn and maybe legal grounds to those who did not. The dumpster wasn't big enough for all the old frames along with all the memos concerning the change........Just saw John's discussion on CF and it's great.

My June car has them.
