    Shift boot retaining ring

Since I decided to freshen the console, the shift boot had a couple of wear holes and needed replacement. After removing the retainer, I noticed it had areas of corrosion to be addressed. So when I go to repaint it, what color should the retainer be? Would SEM trim black be too matte or flat? what then would give the correct level of gloss?
I also noticed a "C" stamped into the surface that goes against the rubber boot, a manufacturers mark perhaps? see picture below.

Rustoleum semi-gloss black is my recommendation.

        Joe,
I haven't seen the original 1613 in a few years. Similar comments about Blitz black. If you look on line for the 1613 can that we all remember, they don't seem to be available. Blitz black seems to only be available online and then you pay serious shipping charges. I used up my last white can of 1613 a while back.

        Gary.

Its available several places, the can design has changed but yeah -- the industrial 5-ball stuff is still around:

            Frank,
I saw that but was trying to find it locally and figured that the shipping charges would kill me. I will do some more sleuthing locally before I buy a multi-pack set.

            Thank you,
            Gary

                Joe,
Thank you for that link. I have found this online, although I saw the new formatted label, but didn't know if the formulation was the same. Call me cheap, but I was/am trying to find it locally and avoid paying the shipping and hazmat fees. I will buy asap though

                Thank you,
                Gary

I figured that the John Deere dealer would have the paint. Unfortunately they're about an hour away. I only make it down that way a couple times a year. That's why I was trying to find one local to me. But I will certainly go to John Deere if I can't find the Krylon 1613 locally.

                    Thank you for the help.

                      Re: Shift boot retaining ring

FYI, just like Krylon the current John Deere Blitz Black isn't the same as the product that was lauded in the past.
So, if you get some, let us know if it's any good.

Found out that the local auto parts stores all have 2-3 colors of Ford blue, but zero of GM blue for the late 70s cars. In a similar manner, I had to order some at 3x the cost of local, but it's all there was. I suspect you will end up doing the same for the black.
