'66 w/AC Battery Tray Bolt Original Plating

    Hello Guys,

I've been researching the TDB Archives for this answer, but no joy. I'm hoping some of you midyear w/AC or 396 owners will chime in on this one.

Can anyone tell me the original plating on the large washers and recessed hex head bolts that attach the AC (or 396) battery tray to the frame? From the posts on the TDB it appears to be black oxide. But I saw a post where they looked to be zinc or cadmium.

The washers are reported as: OD 1" inch, ID 5/16" inch, 1/8" inch thick.
The bolts are reported as: Recessed hex head, "D" headmark with 3 surrounding circles, 5/16" - 24 x 3/4" length (or 7/8" length).

    Sure could use anyone's help,
    Mike

I have an original set I'm in the process of cleaning up, they appear to have been black oxide. Also, Original Corvette has a set in his eBay store that are black. Mine have a D headmark with 3 circles.

Agree.........they were black oxide or black phosphate coated on my 1967 factory air car.

Agree as well, my '66 427 A/C car has the black oxide ones.

          Stewart, Larry and Michael,

Thanks guys for your responses. I kinda figured they were black oxide (or phosphate). Known originals I've seen have been black as well. That one post with these bolts/washers in fresh zinc (or cad) must've been replated. This info really helped. My '66 427 w/AC had a lot of bolts replaced with wrong hardware when I bought her in '88. Think I'll be putting a set of these described washers and bolts back on the car.

Take care and I hope all is well,
          Mike
