the nuts that attached the upper arm to the frame on a 67 coupe. What markings are in these nuts, any pictures of the same? Are they slightly rounded or a typical nut. Thx

The outside "crown" of the nut is slightly rounded...no markings that I could see.Leif

Re: front suspension upper control arms
These are a stover-type lock nut. They were available under GM #9422300. It's been discontinued for quite some time. However, perfect reproductions are available from AMK Products. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: front suspension upper control arms
Danny & Joe,
Never say never, but I have never seen the rounded Silver cad plated self locking nut on a 67 upper control arm. In fact my opinion is that they first started appearing sometime during 1969 production. I have always seen a black oxide lockwasher with a steel natural unplated nut. However, if you went to a Chevrolet dealer and asked to buythe upper control arm nut over the counter, you got the latter. The self locking round head silver cadmium plated nut that does not use a lockwasher."SOLID LIFTERS MATTER"- Top

According to GM the GM #9422300 was used for the upper control arm shaft application beginning with the 1966 model year or, sometime during that model year. The nuts on Leif's 1967 shown above are definitely that type.
Of course, it's very possible that some or, even, all cars were built using the standard hex nut and lock washer as used for earlier C2's. But, if so, that's not the way they were supposed to be built. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: front suspension upper control arms
‘65 was the last year to use a lock washer on the upper arm mounting. The nuts using the lock washer are standard non rounded ends. The squared off vs the rounded configuration A arm shaft was a change over during the 66 model year. In fact some original cars are known to have one of each style.- Top

Re: front suspension upper control arms
Thank you for the help, as you can see from the thread there seems that various methods were used. Crazy but after taking the car apart 25 years ago I am putting it back together. It will be a monumental task but I'm up for it. Seems like my car used the rounded nuts, no lock washer like your pics. Thats what I ind in my bag of nuts and bolts. onward- Top
