    Battery Terminal Paste

The Judging Guide includes this statement: "The positive battery post has a thick gray felt washer inserted under the battery cable terminal. The felt washer has an anti-corrosive paste applied, which may appear as a reddish-brown color." The repo gray felt washers are readily available, but they are dry. Anyone know of an anti- corrosive product of the correct color, or something that mimics the correct look of it? Thanks.

    Rick,
Apply a few drops of motor oil on the gray felt washer and it will appear more reddish-brown once under the battery cable. The oil is what helps prevent the acidic corrosion.

It won't smell like the original paste. Points off!

Seriously, does no one know what the real GM stuff was? Does Joe Lucia know?

Exactly. It's fun to see what substitutes we can think of, and I DID ask for that. Being a gray beard, I seem to recall this stuff was about the consistency of anti seize compound. Beyond the factory stuff, I can't recall anything about aftermarket brand names or packaging either.

How would this work? It is usually $1.99 at the auto stores.
I am not sure what color it is.

I also have a spray can of red colored stuff for battery terminals. Had it for years, a life time supply or till the can fails.

This looks promising, since it is a product intended for the job. Do you happen to know what color this stuff is?

I am not sure of the color of the stuff in the packet. The spray can of Permatex 80370 Battery Protector and Sealer is purple.

Not sure about the 1967 Corvette AIM, but the 1968 Corvette AIM shows it's dipped in 9985045 Hypoid lubricant. The 1967, 1968 and 1969 Camaro AIMs all show it's dipped in 9985044 Hypoid lubricant. No clue what the difference is between 9985045 and 044 (I believe it's probably a typo in the 1968 Corvette AIM and is supposed to be 044), but maybe Joe can look up those part number and get more specific. However, if they're what I think they are, they're both just 90wt gear oil.
