    Was the radiator drain nippile and shut off painted black or natural.

    JG doesn't mention one way or the other, however, a photo (pg 185) of the Third Arm Mount Bracket shows what appears to be an unpainted petcock in the background. Can't see the nipple in this photo. AIM calls out the nipple, coupling and valve separately indicating they would have been St Louis installed. Educated guess would be the rad was painted and shipped and drain was installed and left unpainted except for possible blackout overspray.
