    Reproduction aluminum knock-offs

How close are the most recent Corvette America aluminum knock-offs to the original wheels? I've seen pics of both for 65 (and can't tell the difference), but haven't examine both on a car.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Corvette America makes the most original KO and the others selling are not even close to original. Call Matt at extension 221 at Corvette America.

Mike, what type do you want? Spin on or bolt on?

Hi Harry, I'm thinking about spin-on, but I'm having the 65 judged and am wondering if they'll pass judging...I can put regular rims and hubcaps on for judging, if I have to...

        Thanks,

        Mike

Mike, I don't think they will pass judging. If you are getting them for driving, direct bolt ons is the only way to go (IMHO). I have had a set on my '65 for over 15 years and love them. The current generation is much closer than what I have but are still detectable. Don H.

Here's a picture of one of the bolt on wheels I just purchased from America's Finest Corvettes in Ramona, CA for my '67 - next to one of the unrestored original K-H wheels on my '66 coupe. You can see that the width of the fins is identical to the '66, as is the configuration of the rim. The only major difference between the two is that the new wheel is much more shiny. I don't know if Corvette America is selling the same wheel, but I do know that America's Finest Corvettes is the manufacturer and owns the tooling.

One of my 63's has the spin-on and the other bolt-on. I use them for driving not judging. The cars drive much better as the wheels are lighter and less likely to get run-out like the steel wheels that revels itself as a front end shimmy. For some reason I just feel more comfortable with the bolt-on wheels.
