I sourced an original dual snorkel air cleaner used 1970-72, and reproduction stickers for the lid.
Problem: The arc of the "Turbo-Jet 390 HP" sticker doesn't match the lid, and the lid doesn't have enough flat real estate to place it.
Plus the "454" crossed-flags sticker is too tall and its arc along the bottom is also different than the lid's.
At first I thought the repro stickers were the wrong size.
Then I found this 12 year old thread by Scott Sims, who had the same issue. Unfortunately, his question about the stickers wasn't addressed.
I also found this 2011 CF thread with the same issue. Posts there suggest these stickers were designed to fit the open element air cleaner used in the '60s through late 1970. And when the dual snorkel with its different shape was introduced during 1970, the current design stickers were still used even though they didn't fit well. Then in 1971, the sticker was redesigned for the dual snorkel.
Is this the correct story? 1970 dual snorkel air cleaners feature stickers which don't match the arc of the lid and are too large for the space available? If yes, can someone post photos of how they were placed by the factory? It's not obvious.
