    1974 Bumpers

My friend has a 1974, both bumpers are crazing and have cracks. There are a few different types namely urethane and flexible fiberglass. Which one is correct or if any of these are correct, please let me know what is, so I can pass it on.

    Re: 1974 Bumpers

Ken, I just finished fitting front and rear flexible fiberglass bumpers on my 1974 Corvette. Flexible fiberglass is a good choice because it has enough flex for a better fit (wiggle room) and I could fill and sand the bumper to fit the body instead of working the body to fit the bumper. I chose the two piece rear bumper (the seam looks correct) and I'm happy so far. I considered the polyurethane but if the fit wasn't good what's next body work? I purchased mine from Ecklers they will give you good customer service. I just finished two articles for the Northeast Chapter news letter, you can view them online https://www.ncrsnec.com
    Good Luck

The original bumpers were urethane. Whether that's the best type to use is an open question but it's the original type, nonetheless.

Unless it has come out recently, there is no urethane repo for the rear. For the front I would use a NOS gm service replacement or the repo urethane available from Corvette Central for around $4-500
