    69 door handle restore

In the process of total restoration of 69 L46. The exterior surface of the door handles have scratches from normal use. No pitting in the chrome. Has anyone taken these apart and got them re-chromed? If so, how did you handle the pin and spring that holds the flapper portion of the handle in the hull of the handle? I haven't seen where the springs are available from anyone. Is there anyone that will restore these?

I understand the reproductions aren't that good. And this is a mostly original, numbers matching car that I am working on.

    Thanks for your help.

After a little tinkering I was able to use a small punch and push the pin out of the handle. I should be able to reuse it. I will have the handles replated, along with a number of other small pieces that need done. I still need to find the springs - both the one that keeps the flap up and the one below the handle on the mechanism. tips appreciated.

Component parts of the door handle assemblies were never available from GM in SERVICE. So, the only source would be salvaging the parts from used door handles or some aftermarket, possibly "generic" source.

Thanks Joe. I will try to find springs that will be close to the originals and just as functional.

I found the door handle assembly spring at corvette America which I will order today. Still searching for the other spring which is on the outside of the handle assembly. I could use the originals but they are weak and the end is twisted out of shape.

Rich, What is the part number for the Corvette America spring? Also can you post a photo of the other spring and this way I can look around for them also.

Rich, The springs in post # 6 are they the same spring as post#8 or are they the ones you still looking for?

                    Re: 69 door handle restore

Bob, springs in post #6 is what I am looking for. They attach to the pivot on the outside bottom of the handle housing.

#8 is what I ordered from CA. springs in #8 are inside the handle that keep the flap up and are the more difficult ones to replace.

Rich, Take a look at a co called McMaster-Carr.com at the top of the page type in springs. Maybe something there will work.
