53-55 speedo tach mileage.

I just saw a video of a restored 53 Corvette.This was a top flight car. I noticed that the tach has numbers like the speedo showing mileage. The mileage on the tach was different then on the speedo. I was not even aware both the speedo and the tach showed the cars mileage. Were there two cables, one hooked to each ? Should they have been be different ?

I believe the tach show hours of operation not miles.

Tach shows engine revolutions. My study of 9 cars show that there were about 3.2 - 3.4 revs per mile. So if you find a car with a busted speedometer or one that may have gone around you can roughly figure the actual mileage.
