Re: Solid axle 2nd front stabilizer bar

Mike, I know you knew all the answers before you posted, but the page, Tremendous Technical Trifles, is a page from Corvette News (I have the entire run from 1957-88). The dual-fan belt setup is the same as on my 1957 #73 Corvette race car (driven by Bob Spicer and Fred Yeakel, but NOT the '57 Fred owned).

Without a photo showing the round pieces you refer to I believe they were included in the kit assembly as per the instruction sheet that states: "On fuel injection models remove crossover pipe & arc or gas weld closed with provided caps". Unless Mike has forgotten, he did an article in the RESTORER years ago on this service kit.

I am confused, I only see one sway bar in these picture and the brackets are not attached.

The stock sway bar is in front of the suspension and above the frame rails. The auxiliary sway bar is behind the suspension and below the frame rails.

Check post 14. His picture is of the lower rear portion of the control arms.

It is a pleasure to watch Bob Erickson's #283 being raced at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA in the SOVREN historic racing events. I will again be doing tech inspections the last week in April. I will take some extra time looking at the front suspension.

                To Wayne and Jim:

Jim, the dual sway bars are not together/parallel. One is the regular one in the front and the second is the one attached to the back of the A-arms that goes beneath as in my pic. It just wasn't completely attached in the pic.

Wayne, Back in the day, Fred's '57 #283 was #97 and it was Arctic Blue. The confusion comes in because Fred, as a fellow CalClub member, also drove my car. He and Bob Spicer teamed up at the 1966 Riverside six-hour Enduro, where they took turns at 1.5 hours each, with Bob starting. They placed First in Class and Second Overall, with a Shelby Mustang edging them out, although Bob maintains they could have won overall had he not been incorrectly called for an improperly tightened strap!

Fred then came back and drove my car in the 1966 Labor Day Weekend races at Santa Barbara. Because Fred's SCCA number was #97, he peeled off the #73 that was my car's SCCA number and put on his #97. But my car raced as Polo White (although originally Venetian Red).

That's why people even now think my car was Fred's!

                Bob

                      Thanks, Bob. Makes sense now!
