    63 Steering Column Reassembly

I'm putting my steering column back together and now realize I neglected to take one measurement when I took it apart.

The mast jack fits into the cone. The question is, how far above the turn signal cancelling ring is the top of the upper bearing. It looks like 5/16 works but I just want to double check.

    Thank

I don't have the measurement Harry, but this is mine when I took it off my newly purchased 63 to restore the dash cluster...
I didn't move anything. Worked fine before I removed it and after I installed it.

Frank, I just zoomed the photo. Looking at the shadows the upper bearing is just above the turn signal ring.

      Thanks

        Harry,

I am going from memory here but check the mast jacket for a stop/lip. That sets the depth inside the cone.

          Tim,
Yes, there is a little lip/bump in the mastjack but there is nothing in the cone to catch it. The lip/bump it for right/left alignment not in/out.
          Thanks

            Harry,

I just looked in the AIM section 12 sheet B6 showing the control assembly and instruction #4 sets the location of the control assembly on the mast jacket when the hub/control assembly clearance of .070-.090 is established.
