The NCRS judging guide for 1966 indicates that the 5/8" heater hose should be a plain finish (no alligator skin or cross hatch pattern) with no ribs and have a G M script and a box that are 5/16 high and spaced every 1 3/4 inches. Does such a hose exist and if so from which vendor or vendors. This info is from page 132 of the fifth edition of the technical information manual and judging guide. Thanks for any comments or advice on this matter.

This is exactly the points I attempted to share in my post of common error of restored cars. When persons start saying that’s too picky it destroys the intent of sharing information. My thought if it’s too hot in the kitchen get the hell out.
John, thanks for sharing a source of CORRECT HOSES INFORMATION can be verified.
It is too bad other one’s need to shoot down information that is shared with others on this site. Too many times followers of given restorers interperted practices have become accepted as “correct” when in actually it is NOT.
Many of these shared points are small but in the spirit it is to make restorations closer to being correct as GM made these cars. It is not being picky it is just being closer to being totally correct.- Top

Re: 5/8 heater hose with GM markings and no ribs?
The next thing that comes to mind would be the judging guidelines for all mid years pertaining to heater hoses. Do the guidelines call for the same non ribbed but scripted hoses in 5/8 for each year of the c2 production? In particular what does the newest version (67?) have to say on this subject. I hope others with various mid year interests weigh in on this and that some type of accepted standard can at least in general be presented. I am guessing that many of us only have the JG for our particular year? Images would also be of interest as well as sources of available products that have been accepted as correct.- Top

I here it is intended to follow along with each year manual to have the same content and wording to make it easier to flow from one to another. These things don’t happen over night. They are being worked. It may be the next iteration comes closer to this goal.- Top

The hoses on your car are 55 years old? Do you worry about hose failure causing sudden coolant loss and overheating? Or is your '63 strictly show and not driven?Mark Edmondson

Re: 5/8 heater hose with GM markings and no ribs?
I have looked back over judging results of my 3 '64s over the last 3 years, chapter, regionals, and nationals, and since the '63-'64 TIM&JG states the hoses were "generally" not ribbed, the ribbed reproductions have not seen any deductions except at one national, where a 1 point deduction was made as "NTFP" finish in CDCIF matrix.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

I drive my car, although not far, and I do worry about the hoses. I inspect them religiously. The car has 43,000 miles on it which isn't a lot but you are correct, they are old. I know I will have to change them out someday.- Top
