'67 Key Envelope

Regarding glove compartment contents judging, 5th edition of the '67 JG does not mention the small (2.25"x3.5"), white paper envelope p/n 3933878 for the ignition & compartment/tire tub lock keys. Does this get included in the glove compartment contents section for judging? If it does get judged, how was this supplied by GM to the dealer i.e., were the keys inside the envelope, was the envelope empty, were the key numbers written-in by the dealer or the owner, were knock outs only stored in the envelope? As far as I know, each set of keys were held together by a circular wire ring. If this is the case then it would be very difficult to stuff them into the envelope. I searched the archives, but could not find all of the info. I was looking for on this.

Phil,
Quite a long while back in the “Restorer” Roy made the statement that NCRS was not going to judge paper any longer. I’d assume that the envelope was paper thus not an issue any longer.

If the screws are on the license plate on the car, the judges won't be looking for the screw envelope.

I think you are mistaken. The edict was not to judge Protect-o-plates only. All other glovebox items have been and continue to be judged as far as I know.

I believe license plate envelopes are judged in C2 and C3 cars and should be judged in C1 cars as well. They were part of normal new car delivery of a Corvette.

You know the “paper stuff” pretty well, does that mean the original as well as repop owners manuals (which as you know are no where near 100%) are supposed to be judged per the CDCIF system?

I’m a pretty a tuned to NCRS requirements and not aware of requirements for envelopes, widow stickers, etc that were not requirements to be presented with the sale of a new Corvette as the OP inquired. But glove box contents was basically is yes it’s there or no it’s not. The only difference being the plastic folder. I really don’t care one way or the other but nothing has ever been put in the judging reference manual talking about this. The only time I ever saw anything in print on the subject was that point made in judging chairman’s editorial by Roy years ago.

I thought Roy’s intent was to get out of judging or reviewing anything “paper”. May be not...........

Window stickers and tank sheets are not an issue as they are not part of the glove box contents. No judging was ever required.

As Dickie stated St.Louis and Dealer documentation has never been judged. The glovebox paperwork as outlined in the AIM and respective Judging Guides is judged. The judging of the POP was stopped years ago by Roy. I assume it was stopped because judging it inferred its validity and with so many fake POP's out there it was best to eliminate it from the judging equation. Very good decision in my opinion.
I will speak for myself as an Interior judge and I always evaluate either reissue or reproduction glovebox pieces vs. original and deduct accordingly. It's difficult as the total point allocation is very low. Missing pieces recieve originality and condition deductions as appropriate. The point allocation for C3 glovebox pieces is higher than C2 cars so it's a bit easier in that regard.

The rules are clear. They were not part of normal delivery and are not judged. Having them is pretty special, though.

As an interior judge, I do the same as Dave with glovebox items. We eliminated the license-plate screw envelope several years ago as these were usually trashed after installing plates. However, the key envelope was normally given to the owner with the knockouts, if they were removed, and the extra set of keys.
