What are the correct intake side gaskets for a 1972 LT-1 Are they like 327 ones with the 'finger bump' showing??? A photo would be nice. Thanks

GM #3957985. This gasket set uses the same configuration side gaskets as earlier small blocks. However, the end seals are different. Earlier end seals had locating tabs which extended on either side of the block end rail. The 3957985 used end seals with locating "posts" which fit into holes in the block end rail.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Also, the front Rubber gaskets with the locating tabs that Joe had mentioned also have a piece of square rubber with the letters GM embossed that is partially visible. If you need a picture I can dig some out and take one for you.

Anyone audacious enough to show up on the judging field with intake manifold end seals that lack the GM embossment should be horse-whipped on the spot and ostracized in perpetuity by every other member of this organization, if not by every member of the Corvette fraternity. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1972 LT-1 Intake Gaskets
Jimmy,
The reproduction gaskets have a raised line on the rounded portion that's visible at the center of the engine. The NOS gaskets are also a lighter color. In the attached photo the repo gasket is on top.
I've also been told by several experienced engine guys to use RTV silicon instead of the end gaskets because they're so prone to leaking. Even John Hinckley penned an article for Corvetteenthusiast.com in which he said "You'll get dinged a point or two in NCRS judging for not having the original rubber end gaskets with the "tab" on them, but I prefer a leak-free engine to losing a couple of points"
That was good enough for me.Attached Files- Top
