My understanding is that the Corvette SS was given to the Indianapolis motor speedway museum many years ago. Who actually owns the SS ? And shouldn't it be in Kentucky at the National Corvette Museum ?

Walter,
Suggest you check out this thread, the car was at the Florida Regional last weekend.

Re: Where is the Corvette SS
Different SS - Walter is asking about the magnesium-bodied Super Sport and it is still at Indy. Legend has it that it is at Indy because Chevy executives with the historical perspective of a deaf-and-dumb sheepherder had ordered it sent to Warhoops for destruction and ZAD et al had to hide it until they located someone/thing with enough PR clout to withstand GM pressure to return it - hence Indy. Re: Where is the Corvette SS
While I certainly agree that the Corvette SS should ultimately end up at the NCM in Bowling Green, the Indy museum has graciously acted as its caretaker and steward, for which we owe them a debt of thanks. They do take it out and exercise it once in a while (and it suffered a pretty significant engine failure doing so a while back)
- but it's always great to see the car out on the track being used as it was intended.
P.S. - And yes, the Corvette Super Sport (as opposed to the Corvette SS) was at the Florida Winter Regionals this past weekend, beautifully restored and a significant GM show car in its own right. It was great to see it there.Attached FilesLast edited by David R.; January 16, 2018, 09:35 AM.- Top
