    Re: Chopping up a 62

If you are in the Corvette business you are in it to make money.

Spend 75 to 100 thousand to restore a Corvette and then sell it for 40 to 60 thousand! I don't think so!

These guys are spending a lot less and selling resto-mods for as much as 200 thousand!

Makes sense to me if you are in the Business of making money!

And one day your restored Corvette just might be a resto-mod when you child doesn't want an old car!!!!

    Think about it!

Can’t see the fun in burning up tires spinning around in circles. Kinda of childish and in dollars and cents makes no sense.

The only reason to do that is to heat up the rubber for drag racing. And I don’t know of any drag racing going around in circles.

Tom, I have seen your video before and LOVE it.

To those that don't get it I have to say the same thing the Harley shirts say "If I have to explain it you won't understand"

          [QUOTE=Mark Edmondson (22468);820967]Walter,

          Chopping up a '62?

You sure know how to get folks worked up, don't you?

What else can we post for fun? How about starting a "clubbing baby seals" thread on the Greenpeace forum?

Seriously, why doesn't our government pass protected car legislation to prevent an outrage like this? The list of endangered automobiles would of course include any pre-'73 Corvette that's original and number 2 condition or better.[/QUOTI I like that idea

personally wouldn't do it, but to each their own and it is their car. if done well I will admire it and the work done. by the way I have owned corvettes since 1970- 70s(4) 73(1) and 67 (3) and now drive a 03Z with 80k miles and still own the 70 and 67 and love vettes.

I mentioned to my 15 year old son last weekend as we were watching a C2 resto-mod being sold at the Mecum auction that turning my '64 Top Flight convertible into a resto-mod might be the thing to do. I was thinking of him and since he is always asking me if I'm going to sell or give it to him when he is older. I was really surprised at his answer when he said no dad, leave it original, I like it better that way.

                        Re: Chopping up a 62

As we get older some get bored with life and like a change. And some older folks absolutely hate change. My ex complained about that with me.
I started out with Model A Fords (still have some) and early Ford V8's. We butchered the crap out of them and got critized by the old guys of the car clubs. But the old Fords were quite plentiful and dirt cheap 50 plus years ago.
Now the guys are making resto rods/cars. On CNN I watch the price this cars are getting and it's stupid money.
To each his own. Today I like unrestored cars and correctly restored original ones. The resto rods don't ring my bell. I would sooner buy a later model Corvette and drive it instead.
Then there is a guy down on the farm with a ZR1 chassis and antique Corvette body. Forget his name.
Play nice guys. Back to work even though it's 8 degrees outside. Whew!!! John

Surely, you're not serious Mark. You really want the government even MORE involved in our lives, especially regarding car legislation. Let the government decide something on these old cars and their decision would be to take them all to the crusher.

It is worse then that. Think about this. Virtually all manufacturers are experimenting / developing driverless vehicles. Talk about putting the "auto" in automobile. They are also shifting production from pure internal combustion power to hybrid designs and all electric power. I suspect that in about a generation or less, and probably as soon as a decade even resto-mods like the ones we are discussing will be obsolete. If there are enough electric and fully auto vehicles on the roads transportation regulations will favor these types of vehicles. They may limit the use of internal combustion dinosaurs to selected roads or times of the day. Fuel will be difficult to get as well as the need for "gas stations" will be significantly reduced. The point is the direction and rate of technology development does not favor our hobby. But I am not giving up, they are going to have to forcibly remove my cold dead hand from my 4 speed shifter!

Hurt me to watch it too, for the life of me I don't understand why someone would do that to a complete car like the car in the show.

If you want cool have you seen the new corvette lately...

That being said I have seen some sweet-e-pies that have been out past closing time that could use some kind of resto.. :-)
