Using A Gray Fiberglass Parking Light Panel On A 1967- Any Flight Judging Deductions?

My original paint, un-restored 1967 Coupe has some left front damage from the original owner. It will need the left front lower parking light panel replaced. The existing original panel is un-repairable. I want to do just the minimum work required to repair. I already have the proper lacquer paint and will blend the new paint in order to keep as much original paint as possible. The original paint is in VG condition with little/no fading as the car was stored in a dark garage for over 40 years. Several experienced painters said the blending can be done.

Now to my question(s). I have been looking over 2 years to purchase an NOS Left Front Lower Parking Light Panel in the proper black fiberglass but have been unable to to find one for sale. I have found a 65-66 NOS panel in the dark gray fiberglass for sale. Not cheap! If this was used to repair the 1967, would there be a large point reduction when flight judged? Can I spray the back with black paint to mask the incorrect gray fiberglass? Is that acceptable? Should I settle for an aftermarket panel in black? Who makes the best aftermarket panels? Any leads on who may have an NOS panel for sale?

I am planning to have the car flight judged for the first time at a chapter meet this year. Should I have the car judged first to get a baseline before making repairs? The car is fully driveable as-is. The rest of the car is very presentable and all numbers match. It is a possible Bowtie candidate. I do understand that any body work will detract from winning a Bowtie but I want the car to look good too, as I drive it regularly.

I look forward to getting your opinions/ guidance. Thank You.

    Leave it alone.

Make sure everything works for Operations, and get your points there. The deduction for that part is minimal, if any, especially with the car sitting on the car being judged. And, the odds of the paint matching as well as you hope...? Slim.

Well stated Patrick. Recently at an NCRS event I attended some cars lost stupid points so to speak on Ops as nothing worked. Those points add up fast. John
