      Re: C2 underbody finish

While under the 63 this week I'm trying to decide whether to leave the rear glass alone or take a stab at getting some of the black goo and red overspray off. This car had blackout EVERYwhere...

        Frank,
Comments have been made on a 66 which is very different than a 63. The JG accepts blackout every where - so do nothing!
Looking at your half shafts they too got blackout with runs being typical. Red (oxide) overspray was also typical, again leave.
Did you get a deduct(s) for blackout when judged in Lakeland?

The glass panels of the body would not have any blackout with the exception of the fender areas which did receive treatment after body drop - that treatment also let some over spray hit the well area under the seats and spare tire tub (a little bit +) Then we can talk about the front area.

Yes, the 63 blackout is a different beast than later years (point taken) and I did not get deductions on this feature in Lakeland...
I'm gonna finish up the rear reassembly this week (hot weather permitting) and otherwise take your sage advice and leave things alone...

            Frank,
Consider painting your shock absorbers while they're out.

Thanks, just delving into areas of my car I'm not that familiar with during the "lockdown"...

Leif - paint shocks with what ? My research indicates originals 63s were semi-gloss black (even for the Z06), going to gray in 64...

I was referring to the AC Delco decals. Paint them black or remove them. IMHO.

Just a small point, the 64 shocks were mostly black with the gray mix late in the year.

                      Julio,

May I ask how much you paid to have it soda blasted? Where did you have it done?

                      Thanks,

                      Jerry
