    3792031 Washer-SPL. Astro Vent Assembly

I am rebuilding the Astro Vent Assembly on my 70 Convertible.

The AIM calls out 2-3792031 washers.

    I did not have washers.

By chance are these wave or spring washers?

    Kind Regards,

    Bill

      picture?

I doubt that any of us I going to dig out an AIM and try to find the correct photo to see what you're after, so if you would post that it would help immensely.

          Bill------

As far as I can tell, GM #3792031 was never available in SERVICE. However, I believe this washer is just a very thin flat washer. I don't know the size.

The part number changed from 3792031 to 3714491 here is the change 3rd column 14th up from bottom. Then 2nd page is the usage of that washer and size 3rd from bottom of page.

              Bill,
As previous posts indicate, that washer was superceded, and the superceder, 3714491, according to one parts book I have is 13/32 id, 21/32 od, 1/2 thick. Another says 1/32 thick, which would be more reasonable, because 2 1/2 thick washers would not fit.
When we were redoing the 70-72 manual, I told Gary B that we needed to have something about the presence, function, and configuration of the Astro-ventilation system. He agreed, and said “research it and write it”. So I am now the duly-appointed unofficial 70-72 Astro-ventilation expert. In that role, which I take very seriously , I can tell you that I have looked at a number of 70-72 systems, and have not yet found either a coupe or convertible with those washers installed. I believe you are more factory-correct without them than with them, in spite of what the AIM says.

You may be right Mike. I cannot imagine the system in mine has ever been previously removed based on how it looked. As an interesting aside, the piece that the vacuum can attaches to had no paint. I may or may not paint. What say you?

                    Thank you, Bill

Unpainted is how I’ve seen them.

                        All-----

I still can't find anything on the GM #3792031. It's a part number that would have been released in the late 1961-early 62 period.

The GM #3714491 would have been released much earlier-----probably about the 1955-56 period. It was discontinued without supersession in October, 1971.
