    Best C6 for the value/money

I've been shopping for a C6 2005-09. I see quite a difference in price between models with similar mileage and condition. I was looking for a Z06 but have found a convertible for quite a bit less. I don't race my cars but would like to know what is the best car for the money. Is it worth the extra for the Z06? I know this is a personal question but just was looking for some advice from owners who have C6 vetts.

    Thanks

IMHO the C6 Z06 is well worth the extra money if you are looking for performance and the thrill of driving an american sports car. I have had both the LS3 and currently have the LS7 and there is no comparison in handling and power. It all depends on personal preference. A convertible certainly will provide a different experience then a performance coupe. Just depends what you enjoy more and the associated cost difference your willing to live with. Go with your gut. You can't miss.

IMO, the C6 ZR1 is the best bargain out there, bar none, value for dollar. But, the chief Corvette engineer stated at the time, they would never make an automatic or convertible ZR1, so you are out of luck there. As a side note, I see now the new C7 ZR1 is available in automatic and as a convertible, times changed I guess......

Jim, I have a 2006 C6 coupe. It has 30k miles and still drives like new. I know each year more whistles and bells get added. The only options I'd like to have that I do not is blue tooth for the phone and radio control on the steering wheel. I do not recall what year included those options.

Be aware that there is an ongoing problem with 2007-13 fuel pumps leaking gas. So much so that GM has acknowledged it and has extended the warranty for that issue to 10 years, 120K miles. It seems to be a problem especially with a full tank. If it has to be fixed out of warranty, it's several thousands of dollars. I have a copy of the GM bulletin N150682 but it's a PDF file so I can't attach it.

My 2008 Z06 (2LZ interior option) has steering wheel radio controls. I don't have blue tooth, however. I know without the Navigation system (A nicer looking center stack for $3K) a MP3 connection was available, but I don't know if that has anything to do with blue teeth.

Thanks for the link Jim. Here's a link regarding this issue. Almost 50 pages and a 1000 posts. Seems to be a common problem. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ty-recall.html

I have a 2006 Z06 - I love that motor, the performance, and the look of the wider body. That said, it is noisier to drive (not talking about exhaust note). To lighten the car, sound deadening material was taken out so you do hear mechanical noises. I have a friend who had sound deadening material added to his Z06 that he drives every day - it made a significant improvement.

Keith, Do you know where he added the material? Under the carpet? This is the first I've heard that it was removed for the Z06.
                      Thanks

I bought a sound absorbing "kit" that consists of a heavy rubber-like material (about 1/2-inch thick) for the rear compartment and behind the seats. It sits on top of the carpet. It made a big difference, but the biggest sound reduction was the switch from Goodyear to Michelin tires. I have since added a Dymatt-like product under the carpet and in the doors (we had the carpet and door panels out for a color change). This made another significant reduction in road sound, but some road surfaces still result in a lot of noise.

He added sound deadening material under the carpet, console, door panels, etc. It did make a big difference! If you google search, you will see many products to deaden the sound. Personally, I like the exhaust note, but do notice mechanical noises (transmission, rear end). Back when new, I took it to the dealer twice, and they said it was normal. I don't drive it all that much so am used to it.

This was from original press materials:
But for all its comfort, engineers did sacrifice a few components in the quest for lower weight and higher performance:
                          • Side bolsters are fixed and more aggressive to better hold the driver when cornering and they weigh less than standard-model seats
                          • Passenger seat features manual controls, saving the weight of a power-adjust motor
                          • Acoustic package revised to reduce weight and allow more aural feedback of the powertrain

I drove a 2014 Z06/Z07 on the street for almost a year and dont think I ever tapped the true potential of the car....well maybe once.

This is a whole different animal than the C6.
