    Fred,

The only question I have about your test is will it behave differently when pressured at 220 degrees compared to your test conditions?

Good question Gary. The only thing I can think of that the radiator shops just have a large tank full of water where they pressurize the radiator with air-------------I know that the water in those tanks is certainly not 220 though----

HARRY SAID, ''There is a shop in North Hampton, NH. I just called him. He will re-core your heater core. He gets his new copper from Lewiston, Maine. So it's made in the USA.''

SEND THE OLD HEATER CORE TO THE SHOP and let them put a NEW CORE in it. That's what we did back in the 70's and 80's. They will used the end caps and inlet / exhaust valves and re solder them

              Re: Current replacement heater cores.

Jeff, I dropped a heater core at the shop on Saturday. Bert, the owner, will price out the parts and the restoration and give me a call this week.

As soon as I hear back I will post the findings.

              Cheers

You might try calling radiator shops that have been in business for a long time. I was going to have the heater core for my 1966 re-cored 2 years ago. The shop had a new U.S. made core in stock that had been ordered a long time ago. It looks identical to the original, and was not expensive.

                        Got my heater core from:
                        Cap-A-Radiator
                        566 Fulton Street (Rt. 109)
                        Farmington,NY 11735
                        516-293-9026

They have USA made heater cores.

Just a note for C3 and C4 owners. These cars originally all used a copper/brass heater core with soldered connections. The soldered connections are what fails over time. There are now available all ALUMINUM heater cores for C3 and C4 Corvettes. These cores have all welded construction. In my opinion, these are the way to go. Yes, they are manufactured in China but I'll take one of these over a soldered copper/brass core no matter where the copper/brass core is made.

Joe I just replaced the original GM aluminum core in my 02 S10 with 240k miles on it. I don't know if those were imported but it sure lasted a solid 15 years. Is there a concern using regular green antifreeze if going to aluminum?

No, the "green" antifreeze is fine with aluminum. I used it exclusively in my 1969 with aluminum radiator since new. That radiator was in service for about 40 years and 200,000 miles and never developed a leak.

Most modern cars use an aluminum heater core but with plastic end tanks. The retrofit aluminum cores for C3 and C4 Corvettes are all aluminum, including the tanks. And, they are of all welded construction.
