When do I use the bleeders on the master.?I have a motive pressure bleeder.I know the sequence but nobody mentions useing the bleeders on the master cylinder.

Re: Brake, bleed master cylinder (with Bleeders) 67
Gary,
Bleeding the MS is needed when replacing it (typically on the bench) or if it became dry for some reason (e.g. not refilling soon enough while bleeding the system). The procedure is in the CSM.
No need to bleed it during a regular brake fluid flush.Mark Edmondson

Re: Brake, bleed master cylinder (with Bleeders) 67
Yes I agree.however I just finished restoring this car about 4 years ago and repaced everything in the brake system. The brake never were right.I have a good pedal but I have to apply excessive force to stop. The car just does not stop properly. I bleed the brakes numerouse times with no change.I also scuffed the rotors and used metalic and ceramic pads with no change in stoping distance.I am back to organic pads.I just bought a pressure bleeder and as soon as it warms up I am going to see if that helps. My question is after applying the pressure bleeder to the master can I use the 2 bleeders on the master to bleed the master or do I have to remove it and bench bleed.,,and should I do this before I bleed the calipers according to the sequence in the CSM.Should the master be bleed before the calipers or last after bleeding left front.- Top

Do you have Power Brakes?
If yes, I would suspect the PB booster
If No, and You have a "good pedal" and you have a good firm pedal up high from the floor, then bleeding the brakes will not help and is not the problem,.... next make sure your dual master cylinder system is applying force to both the front and rear.....if not start there....
excessive force for manual brakes depending on your definition is normal for these cars when compared to modern power brakes. But you should be able to stop the car from 60 in 140' or so.- Top

Re: Brake, bleed master cylinder (with Bleeders) 67
Thank you for your input.I am hoping that this is the problem I am going to pressure bleed the system an see what happens. When I hook up the pressure bleeder should I bleed the master first with the two bleeders on the master and then Go around to the right side rear ?- Top

Re: Brake, bleed master cylinder (with Bleeders) 67
The reason to bench bleed the master cylinder before installing it is to have all of the air out of the mc before bleeding the calipers and lines. So, to answer your question, yes, the mc should be bled before the calipers. When bleeding the mc on the car it is best to raise the rear of the car so that the mc is level. That will help assure that no air is trapped in the mc bore. Apply pressure to the mc with your Motive Products power bleeder and bleed the mc at the bleeders on the side of the mc then go to your wheels in order.
I doubt that air in the system is causing your hard pedal as air compresses and that will cause a soft pedal.

Thank you tom for your input.originally I did bench bleed the MC ,However I did not bleed the MC from the bleeders on the MC.Then I vaccum bled the rest following the proper sequence.I also am not positive that I bled both bleeders on the rear calipers.- Top

Before you get too involved, IMHO I would go back and re-bleed both bleeders on both rear calipers and then see what you've got.Leif

Bleed valves on the m/c preclude the need to bench bleed. Simply install the m/c and pipes, then bleed the m/c using the bleeder valves, and once it's full continue with the calipers.
