    *** C3 Radio Delete Plate ***

    Hello all,

Just curious - in regards to a C3 radio delete plate - how does one tell an OEM original from a reproduction?? Is there a GM part # on the plate?? I see these on eBay from time to time and the prices for "originals" are way up there. Pics of an original would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

There was no GM part number to be found on these covers. The only obvious difference I am aware of between originals and reproductions is on the rear of the plate. The originals have the studs emanating from a "2 tier" circular bosses. Any reproduction I've seen has the studs emanating from the rear of the plate, itself, with either no bosses or just one small circular boss.

The primary market for these plates are folks trying to "re-create" L-88's. For folks with other cars originally delivered without a radio, their best bet is to install an original radio and pretend like the car always had one. Done correctly, no one will ever know the difference. They bonus is that they'll also now have a radio to listen to.

I was buying parts when these things were still available from GM. I never bought one then and I don't want one now.

Thanks, Joe for the lesson - now I know.

My '68 originally came with the U69 radio option so no need for a delete plate. I was just curious how to tell the difference between OEM and Reproduction. I see delete plates on eBay once in a while (one right now listed for $1,400) and wondering if it is legit and how to tell if it is.

      Thanks again and Merry Christmas.
