Dan, My old motors are dated H61. They are GM part #5045171 and 5045172. The motors that are in the doors are GM #4999678
and 4999680 The old motors look clean inside. The old grease is still wet. The brushes are below the level of the metal they fit into. New brushes might be an idea. I replaced wiring inside the doors when I rebuilt the car.
It would be interesting to know if the original motors were for Corvettes. Perhaps Joe Lucia will see this.

Ken, according to the AIM, my 57 motors are P/N 3723475(LH) and 37233476(RH). But these are the regulator assemblies that include the motors. I did not see any date code on mine, and AIM does not break them down past the regulator assemblies.

I am surprised your brushes are worn. These things normally do not wear much and they see only intermittent duty. As for replacements, I might suggest finding a windshield motor of that vintage. I think passenger car motors may be similar. I know in 57 these two motors are similar and the brushes may be the same. Pass car motors should be quite plentiful and I would think quite cheap.

I don't know what changed in 62. Perhaps someone with 62 experience could chime in.

Can you attach some photos? I could see if they look at all like my 57s. I know the aftermarket motors that our suppliers sell don't look at all like my originals.

Dan, Pictures of the old motors are on the test forum. I could not find a way to post attachments on this forum.

I looked at your photos and they are way different than my 57s. Mine are round - these look like what I see on our vendor sites.

It is not real easy to post photos on this forum. I wish our IT guys could simplify it somehow. They should be able to walk you through it.

Don't know what to say about your motors as I have no experience with 62s except to say try one. I can see the circuit breaker in your photos.

            Re: 1962 power windows

I have been looking at reasons why the window sash is able to bypass the door stops. First I thought it had to be the new GM motors. But I also had replaced the original door panels. I think the metal in the upper panels supports the inner door. My upper rear door panel screw was in repaired fiberglass, and I most likely did not tighten this screw any more than necessary. I have now installed a square plastic push nut with a thin flange, and really tightened the upper rear panel screw. I also noticed the stops had been pushed away from the window, so have installed shakeproof washers under the screw heads that fasten the stops to the door. What I now need to improve on, is the front upper corner of the door panel. The width of the door panel corner measures .825, and immediately tapers narrower. This allows a gap between the door panel and the upper door all the way rearward to about 2" beyond the forward window stop. The window is now not going past the stops, and the upper door looks strong, but eliminating the space between the door and the forward door panel would be best. I do not know if too much vinyl is wrapped around the door metal, or the metal is wider than necessary. If someone has a 1962 with original door panels, I would be interested to know if the door panel is tight against the total inner door.
