1957 column tach with RED face.

I have a chance to buy a RED face column tach to replace the black face tach on the 56.
I have a picture of a red face tach, but know nothing about them. SUPPOSEDLY only a handful of red faces were made (as I was told).
Does anyone know ANYTHING about such a tach, and, most important, the price is $1000. Is that an acceptable price?

I called his number, but did not get any answer. He is the parson that I got the black face tach from many years ago.
