67 Throw Out bearing and Fork

It has been over 30 years since I've last done a clutch replacement in a C2, and my friend has all the parts....in a box and doesn't remember the position of the TO bearing in relation to the fork. Does it fit under or on top of the spring on the fork?

Any pictures or diagrams would help me help him

I received an e-mail from the robot informing me and including a copy of a response from Leif Anderson (29632). In the robot's e-mail the response was jibberish and when I attempted to open the attached image I get the 404 error message. Plus, there is no such response here.

    ????????

      Sorry Don...let's try again.

Nope...for some reason the picture I'm trying to copy and paste won't paste. It will paste in my initial reply but then doesn't show up when I "save" the reply. Never happened before.

A couple of photos showing correct and incorrect throw out bearing mounting.

Well we got his trans out, I watched and kibbutzed, and his TO bearing is/was installed with the tangs not in the groove. So now he asked me, what are the adverse operational effects of this? I drove his car and it shifted fine and clutch was normal.

Well in your case the function was perfect and the life long. No worries.
However, it is my belief the fork is set up this way to allow full movement at the bearing pivot and retain the outer race from rotating.
Unwanted effects may also be excessive wear of the transmission input snout.
If your did neither it works both ways. Doesn't always turn out that way.
Don't forget to pack the recess on the bearing internal diameter with grease.

                        Donald,

If you look in the service manual there may be a picture showing the groove to lube with Molly grease like Richard pointed out. This is important and I bet lots of people miss this step, a little is all it takes.
