Looking for some help replacing the turn signal switch on a 1972 Vette. Car has tilt/tele option and I has just gone through a complete NCRS restoration and received a Top Flight award this summer so I really do not want to start tearing this apart but and really do not know how it gets replaced and this point. Switch seems to stick which is preventing my hazards and directional's from functioning properly. I live in North Jersey and help is greatly appreciated. I know this task can be a bit tricky so I would rather have it done by a person that is very familiar with this repair. Thanks!

Re: Turn Signal Switch w/Tilt and Tele Replacement help on 1972 Vette North Jersey
I hear you, Guy. I've never replaced the turn signal switch, but it seems like one of those jobs where it's easy to break something the first time you learn.
In what way is the switch sticking? Awhile ago the switch in my '70 would not slide up (right turn), but worked fine sliding down (left turn). Cancelled too. The switch was old and not used much, so I tried to unfreeze it by first saturating it with electronics cleaner by spraying into the slot for the lever. After a few hours, I followed up with silicone spray then left it alone for a few days.
It worked! A bit stiff at first but got smoother as I used it.
If you try this, of course protect the carpet and seats with plastic.Mark Edmondson

Re: Turn Signal Switch w/Tilt and Tele Replacement help on 1972 Vette North Jersey
Hey Mark, thanks for the response but I don't know if that will help. Here is what is going on. After the restoration was complete everything worked. Soon after the hazzards did not work and while playing around with the button some how I lost my RH side brake lights and directionals and still have no hazzards, My guess is the switch is bad. Like I said everything worked until the hazzard button was pushed in too hard maybe. Tried to play with it nothing- Top

Guy, these switches are plastic and sound like the contact for the RH. switch is not making contact, about the only thing you can do is remove the steering wheel and lock plate to see what's up. with a tilt and tele column it a little tricky to remove the lock plate but can be done without the special tool to compress the spring under the plate I use a couple of flat tip screwdriver's and push down at 3 and 9 and then slide C clip off and then release spring slowly. you will also need steering wheel puller also. I think places like harbor freight sells them cheap.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Ed, Thanks for the info, I saw a few clips on YouTube it's tricky no doubt but pretty straight forward for a person that knows what they are doing. I managed to find an NOS one on-line so my feeling is if it's gotta come apart might as well replace it. Now just need to find a local person to do it. lol.- Top

Guy, you can confirm if the switch is bad, looking under the dash and unplug the harness and just plug in the NOS one and rotate the switch.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
