speaker search for my 1982 collectors ed. 3 purchased. 3 returns

Anyone out there know where I can get a pair of 6x9 speakers to fit in the 1982 collectors back speakers? I purchased 3 sets all claiming they fit the car. Last pair from Corvette mod website.

    HELP? and THANK you

If you have the original rear speakers I would suggest having them re-coned if they are otherwise serviceable.

The original speakers were GM #16004150. Later GM cataloged replacements were GM #16040930, and GM #16040911. Find any of those and you've got what you need. Of course, that might not be so easy. And, by the way, any aftermarket replacement must be 10 OHM impedence.

Although I don't see those particular speakers on his website it might be worth a call to this fella to see what options he might offer:

Thank you. It has seemed to be quite the challenge. I found speakers to fit but as you commented... all new are 4ohms. I guess I may have to break down and get a newer stereo. I changed the front speakers and already blew a fuse... ugh. I also learned there are 2 fuses to stereo system (sorry for all the rookie comment here boys)

There was a pair on eBay that needed re-coned. I’m sure you should be able to find a good working set

            Listen to Frank.
            Call this guy: http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm (877) 780-2861
Buy 4 correct, new speakers; install, be happy. Done.

I replaced two in a 1972 a couple of years ago, and they work beautifully. You will be thrilled.

You should read the tech info on the web site I posted above...a lot of those "correct" repro speakers from the 'boutique' parts stores are not the required ohms; quality control varies broadly...

Sounds like you've already bought some though -- good luck.

Thank you frank. I had already bought the speakers from that website but it does outline all the specs needed, including 10ohms. thank you so much
