70 Corvette Resistance Wire refurbish/repair

Can you cut out a small section of the resistance wire and solder in a new piece of resistance wire with shrink wrap tubing to cover newly soldered connections and have it function as needed?

Mine is a 70 and the resistance wire is red with cloth covering.

You can not alter the resistance wire and have it function as intended.
