C-1 Leak testing

1959 or 1960 water test. Looks like they had a fixture to raise and hold the hardtop so the soft top could be put up and leak tested.

1960 LE MANS RACE CARS. Three cars were entered by BRIGGS CUNNINGHAM in the 1960 LeMans race. MIKE PHILSBURY from Southern California found the first racer in a Irwindale, California junkyard. It is the DOOR # 2 car, VIN #4117. Mike bought it for $300 in 1983. He and friends [ me too ] took photos to the CUNNINGHAM MUSEUM in the summer of 83 and met with BRIGGS to try and get history on the car. We all speaker phoned ZORA that day who went up to his files and found records for all three cars and confirmed the history of each car. That discovery along with FIA Europe helped find all the history on these rare LeMans race Corvettes of all years.

We found this photo yesterday in a shoebox that Rich Mason has had for life time. The hobby today if very well with ''old geezers'' sharing our love of EARLY CORVETTES HISTORY.

James, Here is #2 at the 1993 Spring Fiesta Regional. John Fitch was a featured guest. He took #2 for some hot laps around the hotel!

Mike discovered in 1987 that STEVE SMITH, an east cost racer in SCCA of Porsche and other cars, had bought the # 2 Cunnibham car and ''DROVE IT '' to California in 1961. Steve was a journalist for Competition Press [ AUTOWEEK ] Car and Driver and other motorsport magazines back in the day. He got a job with ROAD & Track in 1961 in Newport Beach, California The car was his daily driver until he traded it for a Porsche 550.

IT WAS A FIRESTONE TIRE AND BRAKE TEST DEC 19, 1962. THE FUNNY LOOKING 62 CAR WITH THE STINGRAY GRILL WAS REALLY GS #004 [GRAND SPORT ], CHASSIS WITH A DISGUISED BODY. DOUG HOOPER WAS THE TEST DRIVER. HE AND I SPENT A LOT OF TIME OVER THE YEARS. HE SHARED PHOTOS AND THIS STORY WITH ME AND JACK KNAB WHO ALSO WAS A BRAKE ENGINEER FOR DELCO MORAINE AND ALSO A SCCA DRIVER RACER WITH HIS 1956, 1959 AND 1962. HE RACED Daytona in 59 and 62.
