    69 horn location conflict

Working on a 69 L46 convertible. I have a bit of confusion on which side the high/low horns go.

The AIM indicates the 9000245 low note horn goes on the right side and *246 high note horn goes on the left side. The drawing shows the horns pointed toward the outside of the car. Now the conflict. The tech information manual, 5th edition, indicates the *245 low note goes on thedriver/left side and *246 on the right. If I do as the tech manual suggests, then the horns will point towards the center of the car.

When I removed the horns at tear down, I marked the horns consistent to the tech manual. Of course it's possible they were switched sometime in the past.

Any idea on which is correct?

    Thanks much,
    Rich

    Re: 69 horn location conflict

Looked through my pictures this morning. I don't have a real good 68-69 picture of both horns, just the stamps. But the pictures I do have, show the horns clearly point towards each other, towards the center of the car.

I might be around a few 69s tomorrow. If I am, I'll get a picture of a few.

The horns on my original owner 1969 which have never been disturbed or replaced are oriented with the outlet downward and slightly toward the center of the car.

My '68 has the 245 on the passenger side and the 246 on the driver side as the AIM indicates.

Today, I looked at a mid 68 (April 17 build, 24k miles) and the horns point towards the center of the car. 245 on left and 246 on right. I also looked at an early 69 (10k miles) and later 69 convertible (6k miles), they were the same way, point towards the center of the car. I wonder if 68 started out as the AIM is drawn, and sometime they switched? Hmmmm.

            Thanks guys,

I looked at the chassis service manual and it shows the low/*245 on drivers side, like the tech/judging manual states. I tried to post a scanned copy of the AIM page (12 A6, pg 264) and the service manual (12-68) so you could easily see why this was a conundrum for me but for some reason it wouldn't work. Joe's original untouched example would lead me to believe then the AIM is wrong. Is that possible? The revision dates on the AIM start on 8/8/67 and last is 3/26/68. would the production line purposely ignore the AIM during assembly?
Jeff, if yours has 245 on the right then the horns must point outward. Gary's observations are consistent with Joe's. Since I am going to have this car judged when completed I will have them point toward each other which will put the 245 on drivers side. fortunately it wouldn't be difficult to switch them in the future if needed.
