    1970 Front Grills

I have a 1970 Corvette LT-1 (body built code G02, July 2 1970) and I have front grills with screw holes in the bottom of the grills. I have seen other threads about how these grills were sometimes mixed.

Could these be the original grills since the car was built in last month of production?

I can't really answer your question, but mine was built 30 June, and did not use screws.

My 70 was built July 3 and it has grills with studs not holes. It has never been hit and I have owned it since 1972.

My original owner 1970 coupe bought from the show room floor in August 1970 has screws in the bottom of the grilles. It was built in July 1970. I still have the original window sticker I removed.

Go figure. Now I don't feel so bad my June '70 car has grilles with screws.

Jim Trekell, how late is your July built car. My old 70, July 5th car, did not have the screws.

My early July car that was built the same day as Jim's car had the pins in the grilles. Go figure........

More than likely they were exhausting the first design and it was intermitting in production with the second design front grills. My own car has one 1970 driver side a creek grill in the passenger is a 1971 configuration and itis a fairly early 71 production in December. We have all seen the scenarios before with different parts in regard to very early or late productions they should come as no surprise.

1970 Did not have the 2 mounting screw holes at the bottom. They were mounted with studs and speed nuts. Also the side grills, AKA egg crates were different than the 71-72s.

So you're saying you know all 1970s had grills without screws, and all 1971s had screws?

                        Barry,
I think the conversations preceding yours already assumed the points you made to be proper generalities, and were trying to nail down changes with greater specifity.
