    Max jack

I have been looking for a lift for my 9' Ceiling garage and don't want to reframe it since I use overhead for storage.

Has anyone used one of these for a C2-C3? If so there are a couple of models which one did you use and recommend?

    Thanks

    Gary

Are you really sure you want work under a PORTABLE two post lift. Two post lifts always look unstable to me. I'm sure they are OK, just not for me. Wouldn't a scissor lift be safer?

      Hi Ralph,
well I haven't used one of these and don't have the height for a real lift. I do want under car clearance that is why these interested me, do I want the car to fall on me while removing a trans or exhaust- no but that is why I have asked as I'm sure there must be some C2_c3 guys out there that use one of these lifts.

        Gary,
Hopefully someone who has used the maxjack or two post will chime in and provide real feedback.

Gary, lots of discussion on these over on the Garage Journal site, but probably not much Corvette specific info. Chip.

I like my max Jack best thing I bought with a 9ft short ceiling 6000 pounds, I pull transmission out , do clutch jobs, perfect for brakes and front end work , exhaust system , I do ferrari repairs same weight as C2 c3 Corvette my 1967 corvette weight in 3200lbs. Is same as the ferrari , so why does this member say he didn't trust 2 post hoist 90% of shops out there are using 2 post hoist ?????

Thanks Danny, your input is what I am looking for. I have read some negative reviews regarding customer service recently have you had any issues or need to contact the factory on your lift? I think the concern some, including myself, have is with the safety of the system. Did you have to make any special floor arrangements?
lastly I can't really tell but are the columns in the open diff picture appear to be leaning inward?

Gary , you would need a least 4to5inch thick of floor concrete the max Jack is bolt down with 4inch ancher bolts, there 5 I think there 5/8inch bolts per post total of 10 5/8inch bolts the are install with a perfect levels and torqued at 90ft lbs., the installer says these post would never move and he installs thousands of hoist , I had no issues or concern so far been 3 years , Google Maxjack there many videos on the Maxjack very simple hoist to operate and you can unbolt it and move it around but they must be bolted down like all 2 post hoist are ,the photos give you a different look but there are perfectly levelled and space out buy a proffesional installer , max 6000 lbs.

                      Gary,

FWIW, there are several two post lifts with the hydraulic line tray on the floor rather than overhead that will fit in 9 foot ceilings. I had one in my previous home shop.

                          Re: Max jack

I have seen advertisements for what appears to be a pretty nice scissors-type portable lift. This style appears more stable than a 2-post lift, and it does not have to be bolted to the floor. I will try to figure out where I saw this and will post a link if I can find it.

One of the things about a 2-post lift that would bother me in my modest-size double garage is that the posts are located right where the car doors can hit them if the person opening the door is not careful. With two cars in the garage, a total of three doors are exposed to this risk.

Right now I'm still using the laborious method of a floor jack and jack stands, but the older I get, the more I wish I had some sort of lift. However, one advantage of the jack stand method is that all the components can be stored in an out-of-the way place when the car does not have to be lifted (which is 90% or more of the time).

If I do eventually get some sort of lift, I would be inclined to get something like the portable scissors-type set that I saw somewhere. That can be stored elsewhere when not in use.

I got a tip from a friend who saw my post. The product I remembered seeing was Quikjack. There's a lot of stuff on the web and youtube that shows this in operation, but here is one that's kind of funny:
