    1969 Headrest material?

    Hi,
I bought everything I needed to completely re-do my seats for a 1969 Stingray. Upholstery is complete, except for my headrests. I am sure my seat covers and headrests were original and both are done in vinyl. The supplier of my new covers states in their catalog that, "Original equipment headrest covers are made of ABS". I bought the ABS, but they look like what they are, plastic. It doesn't look right to me. Hard to believe they were originally plastic (ABS) from the factory. Should they be vinyl? Were vinyl headrests an option over ABS? Was ABS ever correct? I want what is correct, but I certainly like the look of the matching vinyl that the seats have.

I would appreciate any information or advice on what is correct.

    Thank you kindly.

    John

The 1969 headrests were a madrid grain plastic that exactly matched the madrid grain of the vinyl seats. Whether, or not, the seat covers and headrests were exactly the same type of plastic material, I do not know. The headrests do seem to be a slightly less flexible material than the seat covers. But, regardless, the headrest material should exactly match the grain of the seat cover material and be "compressible". If it conforms in those respects, I don't think it really matters what exact type of plastic it is.
