My Muncie has a small oil leak, see picture. I hate to pull the transmission since everything else is working well. The leak looks to be around the lower rear bolt. 1) is this small leak normal? 2) Is there a way to make sure there is enough fluid in the transmission?

there's pipe plug on the pass side of the muncie's main case. remove plug and insert index finger. if u can touch 90 wt gear oil, there is adequate lubricant in the tranny. as far as the leak goes, it looks minor in your photo. stick a piece of cardboard under the car after you drive it the nest time and see if there is a significant stain on the cardboard in a week or so. if the diameter of the stain is less than 1/2", i'd forget pulling the tranny and just check the oil level occasionally. if the stain diameter is a foot or more, u have a significant leak that needs addressed. good luck. mike- Top

It cant hurt to check the tail housing and side cover bolts. The gaskets can settle. A little snugging could stop a minor leak. Make sure the plug isnt leaking either. If so apply some pipe paste to it. Dont over tighten anything on this trans.- Top
