      Re: 62 fuel cap question

An FI gas cap is identical to all other 62 gas caps, except for the 24-gallon cap which is visible from outside the car. The cap that Joe has pictured will fit, but would not be correct beyond that. Here are pics of a correct original 62 cap.

Mike is spot on, the F-E (Fuller Emerson) cap is the correct 1962 gas cap.

The F-E cap is by far the most common but two other caps (Standt and Eaton) are acceptable. See page 90 in the Judging Guide.

99+% of the indisputably original 62’s I have been documenting since 1974 have had the F-E caps.

Asking a question here. My '61 has a non-vented cap with the venting supplied by a rubber hose in the fuel filler cavity.
              Are 62 and/or F/I cars different?

                Frank,
The 61 cars use the same F-E caps and the judging guide does allow others but they are all non-vented . This is true for F.I. as well as carb motors. Rich

I always wondered why Nolan Adam's book on page 239 shows a version of the Joe's cap above, if none were to be vented? Attached the photo.

I don't have C1 AIM's. What part numbers are shown in the 57-61 AIM's for the gas cap?

Very early '61's used a vented cap. There are photos and a good explanation in the 61-61 judging guide.

Thanks. I'd also be interested in the other C1 years, especially 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1962.
