    Dynamat choices

I'm installing new carpet on a small project car (sorry, not a Corvette--it's a '72 Fiat 124 Coupe) and want to add some sound/heat barrier underneath. I've heard good things about the Dynamat product but when I checked Summit's catalog I was stunned to find upwards of 40 choices. Geez, all I want is a medium size piece (5x5). Has anyone here bought the product or something similar that you can recommend?
Again, my apologies for deviating from strictly Corvettes (I do own a 63, 67 [2] and a 71) on our NCRS site.

    Ric,

Did a Restorer article on C2 floorboard insulation. Hush Mat was the winner; best heat reduction, thinnest material.
HushMat, pioneering top-of-the-line products for sound deadening, vibration control, and thermal insulation in the automotive market.

If ordered directly, Hush Mat gives NCRS members a 10% discount.

Thank you Gary. I'd like to go back and read your article in the Restorer. Can you please give me the date of publication?

Eastwood restoration products (www.eastwood.com) produces their own product which is basically "Dynamat"
Ive used it on a couple of cars...it works great and Eastwood's product is affordable.

          Hope this helps

            Ric,

            Article's attached per your request.

Not much has changed as far as heat dissipation materials since the tests were made except there's more sources available.

            Hope this info helps.'

IIRC there's been some following up articles in the Restorer, but you'd have to search the Restorer CD to find them.

After some research I went with Rattletrap insulation. After this is down I am going back over it with Mighty Matt. If you use Rattletrap be sure that is where you want it, because once it is down it is stuck. I pity the next guy that wants to remove it!

                Re: Dynamat choices

ANY of the insulation for automotive use is typically for sound not heat. Few if any have any information regarding sound deadening. Dynamat has recently created a new product that is supposed to be designed for both and there was a thread about it on the Corvette forum but I have lost track of it and never saw any results of it.

                    Richard,

Vendors hawk their own products. Gary’s article is an independent assessment of products relative to our Corvettes. Comments, on various automotive forums, are largely individual assessments of their own product experience - not often do we get side-by-side comparison tests.
