My 63 T10 is running with a wide ratio and was think of converting it to a close ratio which is what belongs in my SHP, It is currently whining when in 3 gear, so question is with a 355 rear axle ratio do you think that will be enough to keep from lugging on take off? car was a 411 car.

Well, 3.55:1 was an optionally available gear ratio for L-76 with close ratio 4 speed. Usually, GM would not offer an engine/trans/rear gear combination that they figured would be unsatisfactory to owners (although I think the 3.08:1 available with the L-76 was stretching it a bit).
Actually, I think that the 3.55:1 will be fine with the close ratio 4 speed. In fact, I think it might be the best for all-around driving. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 63 T10 Tranmission ratio question
My '60 with 097 cammed 283 has a CR box and I removed the 4.11 diff years ago to get a more driveable 3.55 diff (but only after driving from SC to CA with the 4.11.... dumb). This combination is easy to live with even if the really brutal acceleration is blunted a bit.
The driveway from my shop, where I park the '60, starts out with a 25% grade.... let out clutch and start climbing.... and even with the low torque 283, it does fine. Edward, your 327 pulling the load would do even better.- Top
