    1956 Delco Battery Plant Code

What would be the typical battery plant code for a June built 1956 Corvette?

    Thanks, Chuck

Re: 1956 Delco Battery Plant Code

CHUCK, Page 75 Section 18, of the TIM&JG indicates the Delco battery is a 2SMR53, Cat. NO. 458. A hot stamp code
on top of one of the cell designates the year (6 or 7) and month (A for Jan-L for Dec) and a V-indicating
place of manufacture. There is a replacement manufactured by Restoration Batteries listed in the drive line. Chances of
finding an original that has not been charged with acid is very difficult to find. Good luck.

Re: 1956 Delco Battery Plant Code

Ed, thanks for responding to my question. I have the battery. What I'm looking for is the letter code for the Delco manufacturing plant that built the battery. V was the code for the Olathe, Kansas plant that was built in 1956, and I don't know if they were supplying batteries to St Louis in May of 1956. I'm looking for the letter code for the battery plant that was supplying St Louis in May of '56.

Re: 1956 Delco Battery Plant Code

Very interesting question especially since the Battery Data Section of the '57 Dealer Master Parts Catalog does not list Olathe, Kansas (V) for 1956 only X, T, & S.. Would suggest looking at 1955 Corvette battery source code and using the same. I would guess T-Muncie. 6DT or 6ET. Good observation!! The next thread will probably be how does one change a '56 Battery date source code.

answer to dave's "next question"---don't hit the chosen stamp with yer ball peen hammer. u will break the thin top of the battery. simply heat the stamp of choice cherry red then touch the top of the battery. mike
