I was recently told that some 1957 vettes came with fuel injection emblems even though it did not have a fuel injection engine due to the factory running out of fuel injection engines. Is this statement true?

Re: fuel injection emblems on my 1957 but did not have a fuel injection engine
Roy, I'd agree with Don. I have never heard of that reason. Probably owner added at some time. When I was a kid I had a neighbor with a 68 Pontiac. Owned by a nice lady with a son who was my buddy. My buddy thought it'd be cool to put Pontiac BB 428? Emblem scripts on the fender. The car had a 400ci engine IIRC.
This car was a base engine, Powerglide, with owner added FI emblems. They made the car go faster standing still to scare off would-be street racers in the day.

Re: fuel injection emblems on my 1957 but did not have a fuel injection engine
Having worked for General Motors for 40 years...I can't say I've never seen wrong moldings or trim on a car...but "fuel injection" script on a non fuel Vette?...probably not. Do you know the car's history? I bought a new '58 "fuely" back in '58. They could be difficult to tune. Unless you had someone who could keep it running properly, it could really cause some aggravation. I was lucky...Don Yenko was a friend of mine and his mechanic kept mine running. I actually knew of some cases where owners removed the fuel injections and put on carburetors. You could have one of those cars.- Top

Re: fuel injection emblems on my 1957 but did not have a fuel injection engine
Guys used to do stuff like this quite a bit "back in the day". I knew a guy that had a '67 Plymouth Belvedere with a 318. Had to admit those 426 Hemi emblems on the fenders looked really cool.
But I knew one street racer that went the other way. Took the "SS 396" emblems off his Camaro and replaced them with "SS 350". Worked for about two weeks until other racers got wise to him.- Top

Roy,
Emblems are still being added to new corvettes today. Know I had 65 FI on my 64 for a while, just looked better.
So the first thing to investigate is was your 57 a FI car? Many knowledgeable members here on 57's who may know those
little differences which can lead you to an answer, so that's the better question.- Top

Re: fuel injection emblems on my 1957 but did not have a fuel injection engine
Roy,
I've never heard of a '57 Corvette delivered with FI emblems and a carburetor because of the factory running out of FI engines. The engines were no more special than the 283/270hp 469Cs. The 469Cs just had the more rare 997 heads.
But there is at least one documented case of a '57 Corvette that was built with FI (as a 579D "airbox"!) that had the FI and airbox removed at the factory. That car was #6338, second to the last '57 made, and it was ordered by Art Saylor of California who wanted a 469C with 684 heavy duty brakes, steering, and suspension to take racing. For whatever reason he did not want FI. He ordered the car late, mid June of '57. Again for whatever reason the car he ordered was built as a 579D, and only upon his insistence was it converted to what he had ordered. The body would have been drilled for FI emblems, but I know of no "as delivered" photos of this car. It probably had them, but is now restored without the emblems.
It seems likely that there could have been other buyers who might have insisted on a carburetor, but I'm willing to bet if there were other conversions they would have been at dealerships.
You can read more about 6338 on Jim Gessner's Registry of Corvette Racecars.- Top

Re: fuel injection emblems on my 1957 but did not have a fuel injection engine
A very good friend of mine bought a 62 Corvette from the showroom floor and it had FI emblems (later). He added the emblems and a 365 HP engine with fuel injection. He owned it and he wanted it that way.
Other than the engine it stayed 100% original. Beautiful silver with red interior 4 speed.
Never touched another thing on the 62 and it stayed that way until he died.
And yes, if it ever shows up again I will know the 62!

Re: fuel injection emblems on my 1957 but did not have a fuel injection engine
One can always tell when the stock market is up. I get calls like this. How much does is cost to put a fuel injection setup on my '57???
My son said to me a few years ago at Corvette Carlisle. He said Dad it's unlike you to chase away customers at the shows. Why don't you sell them all they need to create a '57 fuel car. I said my heart won't take it anymore. Too old. LOL- Top

Re: fuel injection emblems on my 1957 but did not have a fuel injection engine
When I bought a '57 Corvette basket case to restore it already had all the hole's for a '57 fuelie so I bought all the emblems even though the car had no engine. It was easier than trying to fill up the holes.

Patrick,
That isn't #561 is it?
I've been searching for my first Corvette that I sold in 1987 after 10 years of ownership If so, it is a real FI '57.
