Kiddie Fire Extinguisher Recall - 37.8 Million - Plastic Handle & Pushbutton Types

See the CPSC recall info HERE.

Check your FE's HERE on the Kiddie website. However I had a Error when accessing their Model List. There is a form to fill out. You need the Model #, Serial # and Date Code(if found).

You can add several to the form if you have more than 1. I had 2 affected and just submitted my claim.

THis is a bit scary as I've had these for years and thankfully never needed them....... YET.

PS We may want this as a Sticky for a while.

For more information, as to where these numbers are, try the FAQ link first. The pictures got me to the general area on the extinguisher to find these numbers (not exactly where they are located however) My unit had multiple model numbers, but one was ripe for replacement.
PS mine has both plastic handle and plastic pin, that was not a chose. Good thing I did not need at the Regional when cigarette lighter wire melted the wires, quick judge disconnected battery and all was good.

Alan, I just added the FAQ page as a attachment too.

Sorry about your lighter wires. Happened to my '59 years ago too. I added a 15A fuse to that one.

Alan, I used to drive a Saddle/saddle '63 340 HP coupe with a fuel injection. At that time I was a heavy cigar smoker. One day I was out on a date with it. Pushed the lighter in and forgot about it.(I think the lighter didn't pop out Next thing I knew smoke (not cigar)smoke was pouring out of the dash and under the hood.
        Insurance company was not happy.
One might think the wiring engineers in old days would have added more fuses, etc. John D.

I believe it's spelled Kidde and pronounced kid-a. Those things are total junk... everyone ever made should be recalled. They won't hold pressure for more than a couple of years. I bought three or four... for the track cars and garage.

I ended up going to a real fire extinguisher store and bought steel case 2.5 pound units. That was 20 years ago and none of the pressure gages have not moved one iota, and if they do, they are rechargeable.

It's amazing the junk that is sold to consumers nowadays.

Luckily, of the six I have, none are this brand.

For those that have dry chemical extinguishers in their home, shop or cars - At least once a year, turn the ext. upside down smack the bottom of it with your hand or a rubber mallet until you are able to feel the powder move back and forth inside the ext. when you rotate it end for end. The powder tends to cake at the bottom and if it does, the only thing you'll get is the nitrogen propellant without any powder.

Good reading here. Be forewarned, it's 12 pages long.
I've been looking through several threads recently about extinguishers and thought I'd shed some light on the topic. I'm a professional firefighter in Little Rock, Arkansas and on my days off I work for a fire extinguisher service company where I am a licensed technician. This will be long, but...

I have three extinguishers and all three are going to be replaced. They were various ages so if you have some, chances are if they have a plastic handle, they fall under the recall. They said to expect replacements in 2-3 weeks. And fyi, the powder in one of them was stuck to the bottom
